Official statement

Stichting Mesopotamië · The Hague, 21 September 2025

Stichting Mesopotamië clarifies the ownership of the MENA Film Festival and exposes identity fraud.

In light of recent misleading claims, Stichting Mesopotamië confirms its exclusive ownership of all rights to the Middle East and North Africa Film Festival in the Netherlands (MENA FILM FESTIVAL).

The foundation wishes to make clear to the public that Stichting MJG has never organised any edition of the festival. This party has misled the public by presenting itself as the festival and misusing its name and identity. Stichting Mesopotamië stresses that the party claiming to have organised the sixth edition has no documents or evidence to prove any connection with the festival.

The true history of the festival shows that all eight previous editions were held under the direct supervision and management of Mr. Mohammad Amin:

  • The first four editions were organised in cooperation with Stichting Laaktheater as the organising foundation, with Mr. Mohammad Amin as artistic director and programmer.
  • The fifth and sixth editions were organised personally by Mr. Mohammad Amin after the festival rights were transferred to him by Stichting Laaktheater.
  • The seventh and eighth editions were organised entirely by Stichting Mesopotamië, which was founded by Mr. Mohammad Amin.

To prove its ownership, the foundation holds dozens of official documents issued by trusted Dutch institutions such as Fonds 1818, the Municipality of The Hague, the Haella Fonds and CultuurSchakel. The foundation also refers to the presence of a large number of Arab filmmakers and critics who took part in the festival editions at the personal invitation of Mr. Mohammad Amin.

Stichting Mesopotamië emphasises that this statement has been issued to put an end to incorrect claims and to protect the identity and true history of the festival. The foundation reserves the right to take legal action against parties who misuse the name and history of the festival.
